TEHRAN – The Center for Dramatic Arts will be celebrating the National Day of Theater on March 27.

The day of March 27 has been designated Iran’s Theater National Day and is concurrent with the World Theater Day, which is celebrated annually around the world.

Beginning on March 23, the Sangelaj Hall will host the play “Proposal”, a comedy play written and directed by Azim Musavi.

Tehran City Theater Complex will be hosting a number of street plays with the central theme of Noruz and spring including Noruzkhani, Naqqali, and Kheimeh Shab-bazi.

Noruzkhani consists of performances featuring songs about Noruz (Iranian New Year) and spring.

Naqqali is a style of storytelling dedicated to epic stories from Ferdowsi’s masterpiece Shahnameh.

Also, Kheimeh shab-bazi is a traditional Persian puppet show performed in a small chamber by a musical performer and a person called a morshed (mentor). The dialogue takes place between the morshed and the puppets.

In addition, the Honar Hall, which is dedicated to plays for children, will be hosting the play “Mouse to Mouse”, a play by director Ramin Kohan.
