Persepolis football team of Iran defeated the UAE’s Al Wahda 3-2 in Group D of the AFC Champions League on Tuesday.

In the match held at Al Nahyan Stadium, Vahid Amiri opened the scoring for Persepolis just four minutes into the match.

Persepolis could have scored more goals in the first half but lacked the cutting edge.

Al Wahda’s Ismaeil Matar, who came off the bench, equalized the match in the 58th minute.

Valdivia rifled into the roof of the net to give Al Wahda a 2-1 lead on 64 minutes.

Mehdi Taremi scored Persepolis’s second goal with a header in the 80th minute and he was on target once again in the 90th minute to seal a 3-2 dramatic win for the Iranian team.

Persepolis started the campaign with a 1-1 draw with Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia last week.

The Reds went top of Group D with four points.

Elsewhere, Iran’s Zob Ahan lost to 10-man Al Ahli of Saudi Arabia 2-1 at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Group C of the AFC Champions League.

Abdulfattah Asiri pounced inside the box to give Al Ahli the lead in the 29th minute.

Zob Ahan captain Mehdi Rajabzadeh found the back of the net from the penalty spot just before the halftime as the sides went in level.

Omar Al Soma’s 86th minute free-kick secured a dramatic late 2-1 win for Al Ahli at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.

Al Ahli secured back-to-back wins and leapfrogged Al Ain at the top of the standings after the Emiratis claimed a 3-2 victory at Bunyodkor in Tuesday’s earlier Group C encounter.
