TEHRAN – The Cap Spartel International Film Festival in Morocco plans to pay tribute to Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami during its fourth edition, which will open in Tangier on April 5, the organizers have announced on the website of the event.

“This choice, which was actually done in many of the world-renowned festivals is in recognition of the work of the late Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami who was known for blending different art forms and employing a poetic soul in his films,” the director of the festival, Ezzedine El Ouafi, said earlier in last October.

“We will celebrate this figure by offering a translation of his poems into Arabic and extracts of some of his films produced together with his colleagues,” he added.

Iranian critic and film scholar Parviz Jahed will preside over the festival’s jury, which is composed of Italian visual artist Marina Moreno and Belgium-based Moroccan actress Rachida Chbani.

Iranian short film “Building Number 13” by Amir Gholami will also compete in the festival, which will run until April 8.

Earlier last December, the Marrakesh International Film Festival opened in the Moroccan city with a tribute to Kiarostami.
