Persian literature scholar Esmaeil Hakemi-Vala dies at 81

TEHRAN – Persian literature scholar Esmaeil Hakemi-Vala died at his home in Tehran on Friday. He had been suffering from Parkinson’s disease for several years.

Born in 1936, Hakemi-Vala was a prominent scholar teaching Persian literature at the University of Tehran. 

He was selected and honored as an Eternal Figure in Persian literature in 2005. 

The books “Rubai (quatrains) and Rubai Composers from the Beginning until the 13th Century” and “The Rituals of Generosity and Magnanimity” are among his noteworthy credits.

His funeral procession took place at the University of Tehran on Sunday and he was buried in the Luminaries Section of Tehran’s Behesht Zahra Cemetery.
