Tehran, Madrid sign MOU on railway co-op

TEHRAN – Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (IRIR) and Spain’s Administrator of Railway Infrastructures (known as Adif) signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday for railway cooperation, IRNA reported.

The MOU was signed on the sidelines of the 5th International Exhibition of Rail Transportation, Related Industries and Equipment of Iran (RAILEXPO 2017) in Tehran.

Based on the MOU which was signed by Adif (Administrador de Infraestructuras Ferroviarias)’s International Director Fernando Nicolás Puiggarí and IRIR’s Deputy Director for Planning and Economic Affairs Nurollah Beiranvand, the two sides will cooperate in areas like traffic management, modernization of railway signaling as well as communication systems in the rail transport networks.

In the signing ceremony, Beiranvand noted that the Spanish company has great experiences in railway traffic management and by signing this MOU IRIR is going to benefit from these experiences.

The two sides will also be cooperating in rail infrastructure management, modern maintenance and repairing of the rail lines and transferring knowledge regarding distribution of freight and passenger transport capacity on the rail network during the MOU’s three-year period.
