TEHRAN – Iran’s ambassador to Damascus has said Tehran is steadfast in its decision to stand behind the government of President Bashar al-Assad.

Speaking in Damascus on Sunday, Javad Torkabadi said Iran’s will in supporting Syria stems from its revolutionary tenet to defend the oppressed against the oppressor and fight evil schemes, al-Manar reported.

He stressed that Tehran has found out about plots hatched by the U.S. and Israel in the Syrian conflict and will counter them.
