TEHRAN – In reaction to the June 7 terrorist attacks in Tehran, President Hassan Rouhani said on Tuesday that Iran will counter any terrorist move with full force.

“Our country has been facing the devil phenomenon of terrorism and many have been martyred in the frontline of war against terrorists,” he said during a session of the Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution.

He added that Iran has always countered terrorism while the self-proclaimed supporters of human rights have always backed the terrorists.

Rouhani said the security forces have foiled many terrorist plots against the country.

Killing innocent people by some “mercenary” terrorists is “cowardly” and “brutal” acts which make people more determined to “uproot criminals”, he added.

In two simultaneous terrorist attacks on the administrative building of Iran’s Majlis and the shrine of Imam Khomeini in Tehran on June 7, 17 people were killed and 56 injured. Daesh claimed responsibility for the attacks.

The Intelligence Ministry said on June 10 that the mastermind of the attacks has been killed near borders with Iran. He did not give further details.

Massoud Jazayeri, the deputy chief of staff of Iran’s armed forces, said on Tuesday that Iran’s security forces have thwarted upwards of 100 terrorist plots over the past two years.
