TEHRAN - Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi condemned on Tuesday a van attack on a mosque in London which left one person dead and 11 injured.

“Violence and extremism at any place, with any intention and objective and by any instrument is condemned,” he said.

It is essential to raise awareness towards such terrorist acts and take measures to eradicate them, he added.

A van plowed into worshippers near a London mosque on Monday, killing one and injuring 11 people.

British Prime Minister Theresa May said it was a “sickening”, terrorist attack on Muslims.

According to Reuters, a 47-year-old man was grabbed by locals at the scene and police later arrested him on suspicion of attempted murder and terrorism offences. He is still being questioned by detectives.

The suspect was named by British media as Darren Osborne, 47, a father-of-four, who lived in the Welsh capital Cardiff.
