Gahar Lake convenes environment lovers

TEHRAN - Environment lovers and environmentalists from around Iran gathered together on Wednesday at Gahar Lake, a freshwater lake located on the slopes of Oshtorankuh Mountain, western Lorestan province.

The Baloutban Society, an NGO in Lorestan province, has coordinated the three-day event to promote the key role of environmental NGOs in achieving sustainable development goals.

“The gathering would help develop synergy and boost exchange of information and experience among environmentalists of different provinces,” the event’s organizer Amir Hossein Arkian said.

Workshops on empowering NGOs and promoting the role of media in encouraging cooperation between NGOs and locals, holding photography competitions, litter clean-up programs, and other recreational activities will be held during the event, Arkian explained. 

The participants can also take a tour to the alluring Oshtorankuh area and camp at the lake to spend the night.

Representative of environmental NGOs from provinces of Tehran, Markazi, East Azarbaijan, Kordestan, West Azarbaijan, Kermanshah, Ilam, Kohgiluyeh-Boyerahmad, Khuzestan and Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari will attend the event.
