CFR chief: Exiting Iran deal would be strategic error

TEHRAN - Richard Haass, president of the Council on Foreign Relations, has warned U.S. President Donald Trump that withdrawing from the July 2015 nuclear with Iran “would be a strategic error”.

“Exiting Iran deal would be a strategic error that would isolate US & create unwarranted crisis w Iran when US should be focusing on N Korea,” Haass tweeted on Friday.

Iran has warned that if the U.S. revokes the agreement it will immediately restore its nuclear activities to the previous stage.

Under the deal Iran had agreed to limit its nuclear work for a termination of sanctions. The accord went into force in January 2016.
