TEHRAN – Seven movies by Brazilian filmmakers will be reviewed during the Brazilian Film Week, which will open in the three Iranian cities of Tehran, Isfahan and Shiraz on Saturday.

An official opening ceremony will be held at the Iranian Artists Forum in Tehran at 5 p.m., the organizers announced on Tuesday. 

The ceremony will be followed by a screening of “Nise: The Heart of Madness” by Roberto Berliner who is scheduled to attend the event.

The film is about Nise da Silveira, a Brazilian woman psychiatrist who uses art as an alternative treatment for schizophrenic patients.

Berliner and Shahram Mokri, the director of the acclaimed Iranian film “Fish and Cat”, will then join together at a workshop to discuss filmmaking in Brazil and joint film projects.

“Between Valleys”, a fiction film by Philippe Barcinski, is among the film selected for the weeklong festival. It tells the story of Vicente, an economist who lives a calm life with his wife Marina and his son Caio, until one loss after another leads him to an erratic personal journey.

The festival will also screen “5 Times Chico: The San Francisco River and Its People”, a documentary by five filmmakers with completely different styles who start an emotional journey through the waters along the São Francisco River in Brazil. 

Camilo Cavalcante, Gustavo Spolidoro, Ana Rieper, Eduardo Goldenstein and Eduardo Nunes completed the documentary in 2015.

Marcelo Gomes’ drama “Cinema, Aspirins and Vultures”, about a lonely German man who travels through the arid roads of Northeastern Brazil in his truck in 1942, selling aspirins in small villages, is among the films.

“The Boy and the World”, an animation by Alê Abreu, in which Cuca’s cozy rural life is shattered when his father leaves for the city, prompting him to embark on a quest to reunite his family.

“5 x Favela: Now by Ourselves”, five short films that show the slums of Rio de Janeiro through the eyes of the filmmakers Cacau Amaral, Cadu Barcelos, Luciana Bezerra, Manaira Carneiro and Luciano Vidigal, will also be screened.

The organizers have also selected “Southwest”, a drama by Eduardo Nunes that depicts 24 hours of the life a newborn girl named Clarice in a Brazilian coastal village where everything seems motionless, will be the closing film of the festival.

The Embassy of Brazil and Iran’s Art and Experience Cinema are the organizers of the film week.
