Nixon's fate waiting for Trump !

December 22, 2017 - 13:7

Since the victory of Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election, many security and political experts have argued that Russia, and in particular President Vladimir Putin, had a secret and important role in defeating Democrats. The disclosure of Hillary Clinton's emails by Russian security institutions on the one hand, and the Kremlin's explicit opposition to the U.S. Democrats approach, and most importantly, the positive approach of Trump and his electoral advisers towards Moscow, reinforced this hypothesis.

It's about a year since Trump won the election. However, the case of Russia's involvement in the 2016 presidential election is still open as a controversial case in the United States. Trump claims that the purpose of this case is to destroy his dignity, his advisers and cabinet members. However, the recent comments by former security advisor, Michael Flynn, who had been briefly on this post and then resigned, complicated this equation. It's of crucial importance since Flynn is the first White House official who is charged as part of an investigation into Russian election meddling.

Michael Flynn, who has been investigated for the controversial case of Russia's involvement in last year's American election, has recently stated that  communicating with the Russians was the order of Donald Trump, and that he would testify against the President of the United States about the case of relations with Russia. It's worthy to note that Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, was also named in US media reports as another figure who asked Flynn to reach out to officials from Russia.

Flynn's confession exploded like a bomb in the U.S. political, media and security assemblies. The claim affected the US stock market and brought the Russian election scandal a step closer to the Oval Office.  News sources, including CNBC, have said that the Dow Jones Dollar Index has dropped by 350 units, after Flynn admitted that communicating with the Russians was directed by Trump. In other words, American media circles will now be seriously maneuvering on the "Trump's early withdrawal of power". Undoubtedly, Vice President "Mike Pence" will also be accused of secretly engaging with Russia to win the presidential election in 2016. In such a situation, the possibility of the dissolution of the current U.S. government and the holding of early elections will increase again in this country. However, the remove or forced resignation of Trump of power will more destroy the United States political face the international system. And of course, it will be the most controversial case of the country's security and politics over the past two centuries. Even this issue would be more complicated than the "Watergate" case that led to the resignation of Nixon in 1974.

During the presidential election in the United States, a number of FBI agents entered the Watergate Hotel, which was the site of the U.S. Democratic campaign. They eavesdropped them there and then stole documents for various purposes. The illegal act was accidentally discovered by a security guard of the hotel who found the tape, and the Washington Post (its editor was Benjamin C. Bradley at the time) by the help of two of his journalists, Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, informed the public about what was going there.

Later it was found that such deeds had been repeatedly carried out, and further investigation revealed that the depth of such spy activities was very broad. After knowing that Congress would vote for Nixon's impeachment, he quit his post on 8 August 1974. Nixon was the first U.S. president who resigned. Although Nixon's resignation stalled the impeachment process, it didn't end the prosecution at the same time. During the Watergate scandal, the President of the United States was charged with three crimes: the prevention of performing justice, abuse of power, and eventually condemnation of the Congress. On September 8, 1974, Gerald Ford, the successor to Nixon, pardoned him.

At that time, Nixon was forced to resign after the FBI's organized espionage of the Democratic Party's internal meetings (at the Watergate Hotel in Washington) was revealed. But the case regarding the connection between Trump's administration and Moscow is more complicated and it has broad aspects.

The official testimony of Michael Flynn regarding Trump's contacts with Russia during the U.S. presidential election can turn into the Achilles heel of his government: a topic that will affect the United States' political and security equations for a long time. The American media are obsessed with the proceedings of Flynn's trial.

Interestingly, in the event of a more serious conflict between Trump and the American security institutions, the current U.S. government will not remain silent against the FBI. It should not be forgotten that during the 2016 presidential race, while only 24 hours was left to the holding of the elections, the FBI Federal Bureau Director, "James Komi", with the sudden bringing up of Hillary Clinton's emails, led to a reduction in her votes in determining states and thus increased the electoral votes for Trump. In other words, the FBI is examining the case of Russia's involvement in last year's U.S. elections, when this organization is itself accused of interfering in elections (in favor of Trump and against Democrats).

What is certain is that the signs of a major political-security earthquake in the United States are now visible! There is really a great deal of reflection on how the U.S. security agencies (especially the FBI), which have contributed to empowering the current U.S. president in 2016, are now seeking his withdraw of power. These are questions that their hidden dimensions would be revealed in the future with more disclosures. Hence, we will soon be witnessing one of the most sophisticated security cases in the United States. It will naturally create constant and continuous crises in the American interior and social environment.
