TEHRAN - Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Friday that Palestine will remain a priority for the world of Islam until its full liberation.

“Palestine will remain the first issue of the world of Islam in spite of all the plots and fabricated crises,” he said.

His comments came as a response to Bahraini Foreign Minister Khalid al-Khalifa who had called Washington’s stance on Jerusalem as a “side issue” in a twitter post.

Qassemi called the Bahraini foreign minister’s remarks as “disgraceful” and “lamentable”.

“It is regrettable that an Arab and Islamic country calls the deep scar on the Islamic world’s wounded body for seven decades a side issue,” Foreign Ministry official states.

“It is regrettable that an Arab and Islamic country calls the deep scar on the Islamic world’s wounded body for seven decades a side issue,” he added.

U.S. President Donald Trump declared on December 6 that he recognizes al-Quds as the capital of Israel and ordered the relocation of the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to al-Quds.

By an overwhelming majority, member states in the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday “demanded” that all countries comply with Security Council resolutions regarding the status of Jerusalem.

Through a resolution adopted by a recorded vote of 128 in favor to nine against (Guatemala, Honduras, Israel, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Togo, United States), with 35 abstentions, the 193-member Assembly expressed “deep regret” over recent decisions concerning the status of Jerusalem and stressed that the Holy City “is a final status issue to be resolved through negotiations in line with relevant UN resolutions”, UN News Center reported.
