Zarif, UN envoy hold talks on Iraq

TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met on Sunday with Jan Kubis, chairman of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), discussing the latest developments in Iraq.

Zarif and Kubis highlighted the importance of maintaining stability and security in Iraq, IRNA reported.

The two diplomats also discussed the battle against the remnants of the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group in Iraq and the upcoming parliamentary elections in the country. They also emphasized the need for all Iraqi political parties to participate in the elections.

Also on Saturday, Kubis met with a number of top Iranian officials to discuss the future of Iraq and the latest regional developments.
