TEHRAN – Russian director Karen Shakhnazarov has been invited to the 36th edition of the Fajr International Film Festival to attend a screening of his 1991 political drama “The Assassin of the Tsar”.

The film and six other restored classic hits from world cinema have been selected by the organizers to screen in the Classics Preserved section of the festival, which will be held in Tehran from April 19 to 27, the organizers announced on Thursday.

The movie is about a Soviet doctor who treats a schizophrenic who insists he killed Nicholas II and family in 1918.

“A Touch of Zen”, a 1971 co-production between Hong Kong and Taiwan by director King Hu, “Gate of Hell”, a 1953 Japanese jidaigeki film directed by Teinosuke Kinugasa, and “The Rise and Fall of a Small Film Company” by French director Jean-Luc Godard will also be reviewed in the Classics Preserved section.

In addition, Australian director Peter Weir’s “Picnic at Hanging Rock”, Czech director Oldrich Lipsky’s “Adele Hasn’t Had Her Dinner Yet” and Polish filmmaker Andrzej Wajda’s “A Generation” will be screened in the category.
