“Untaken Paths”, “Searing Summer” to compete in Beijing festival

TEHRAN – Iranian movies “Untaken Paths” and “Searing Summer” will be screened in the official competition of the Beijing International Film Festival in China, the China Daily has announced. 

Directed by Tahmineh Milani, “Untaken Paths” tells the story of a young woman in love, who marries against the wishes of her family. She is challenged when her nascent marriage is thrown into trouble because of the couple’s roots in different social strata.

“Searing Summer” directed by Ebrahim Irajzad is about Nasrin whose domestic life is not happy. She knows that she cannot get custody of her daughter in case of divorce. So she covertly takes her to live in an unknown location somewhere in Tehran. However, her husband finds them.

Thirteen other movies from across the world will be contending for the Tiantan Award in the official competition of the Beijing festival that will be held from April 15 to 22.

Among the films are “Barefoot” from the Czech Republic, “Dog” from France, “Eye on Juliet” from Canada, “Journey’s End” from the United Kingdom, “Krotoa” from South Africa, and “Octave” from Romania.

Hong Kong director Wong Kar-wai is president of the Tiantan Award jury panel.
