TEHRAN – Iranian films won four awards at the 13th International Oriental Film Festival of Geneva (FIFOG) in Switzerland, the organizers announced on Saturday.

The Gold FIFOG for best film was awarded to “No. 17 Soheila” by Mahmud Ghaffari.

“Through this award, we wanted to spotlight the feminine quest, the art of dialogue, the acting, the image,” the festival jury said in a statement.

The jury of the feature film competition was composed of Ghita El Khayat, Salima Abada, Sarah Haidar and Soraya Bagdadi.

“Israfil” directed by Ida Panahendeh won the Silver FIFOG for best film. “Through this award, we wanted to spotlight the treatment of the characters, the aesthetic demands, the daring treatment of the filial links, the beauty of the ‘character’ within the landscape,” the jury commented.

Renowned Iranian filmmaker Mehrdad Oskui’s “Starless Dreams” received the Gold FIFOG for best documentary, while “104 Wrinkles” directed by Hady Zaccak from Lebanon received the Silver FIFOG for best documentary.

The Gold FIFOG for best short film went to Turkish director Onur Yagiz’s “Toprak” and “Gaze” by Farnush Samadi from Iran earned the Silver FIFOG for best short.

Iranian distributor Elaheh Nobakht, French-Swiss actress Marie-Eve Musy and Moroccan cultural activist Malak Dahmouni were the members of the jury for the short film category.

Iranian films “Ferrari” by Alireza Davudnejad in the Critics Award category and “Salto” by Maryam Haddadi in the School Competitions failed to win an award.
