Railway co-op MOU signed between Iran, Turkmenistan

TEHRAN- Iran and Turkmenistan inked a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the railway sector, the portal of Iranian Transport Ministry reported.

The MOU was signed by Saied Mohammadzadeh, the managing director of Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (known as RAI), and Azat Atamyradov, the minister of railway transport of Turkmenistan, in Tehran on Sunday, the second day of an economic meeting between the two countries’ officials.

The MOU is aimed at boosting transit of goods via the railway route between Iran, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan in order to elevate railway cooperation in the region.

On Saturday, the first day of the economic meeting between the two countries, Turkmenistan's Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and Iranian Transport Minister Abbas Akhoundi explored avenues of further cooperation on railway, road, and aviation sectors.

Top Iranian officials and a delegation from Turkmenistan also attended the meeting, at the place of Iranian Ministry of Transport in Tehran.

The Turkmen minister also visited Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh on Sunday.
