TEHRAN – Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani announced on Wednesday that he has received a request by 80 MPs to ask President Hassan Rouhani questions in five areas.

Larijani said that the president has one month to attend the parliament and answer the questions.

The five areas are the government’s failure to stop smuggling of commodities and foreign currency, continuation of banking sanctions, lack of effective action to reduce unemployment rate, economic depression for a couple of years and depreciation of the national currency.

Article 88 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran stipulates that when at least one-fourth of the total members of the Parliament asks a question from the president, or any one of the lawmakers asks a question from a responsible minister about his duties, the president or the minister are required to appear in the Parliament.
