TEHRAN – The Iranian city of Tabriz, which holds the title of 2018 Islamic Tourism Capital, will play host to a gastronomy festival from August 29 to 31.

Organized by the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, the festival is aimed to cater to tourism, highlight traditional dishes yet demonstrate and discover talents in Persian cuisine, CHTN reported.

Cooking workshops, talent contests and live music performances are amidst side-section programs for the event scheduled to be held in Elgoli Park from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. local time.

Soaked in history and culture for millennia, Tabriz hosts abundant historical, natural and religious sites, including Jameh Mosque of Tabriz, the Arg of Tabriz and UNESCO-registered Tabriz Historic Bazaar Complex.

Back in 2015, the inter-governmental Organization of Islamic Cooperation designated Tabriz as the capital of Islamic tourism for 2018.

Tabriz was also declared a world craft city of carpet weaving by the World Craft in 2016.
