Water shortage in southern Iran: palm trees cut off at the trunk
Due to temperature rise and long-standing drought spells in southern city of Jahrom, Fars province, palm trees cut off at the trunk.
What’s upsetting is that if one cut off a palm tree at the trunk, it will not grow back again. Palm tree growth occurs only at the growing tip, which also called a crownshaft, at the top of the trunk, and cutting off this growing tip by severing the trunk kills the plant.
