TEHRAN – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Parliamentary and Consular Affairs Hassan Qashqavi met with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammad al-Sabah in Kuwait City on Monday and submitted to him a message from his Iranian counterpart Ali Akbar Salehi.

In addition, the Iranian and Kuwaiti officials discussed the developments in Syria.

The Iranian deputy foreign minister said that the violence should be stopped in Syria and national dialogue should be held.

The Kuwaiti official expressed hope that the ground would be prepared for the implementation of the plan put forward by Kofi Annan, the UN-Arab League joint special envoy on Syria, which was meant to help resolve the crisis in the Arab country.

Annan announced on August 3 that he would resign when his mandate expires on August 31.

Annan, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, had put forward a six-point plan for ending the crisis in Syria, which calls for a UN-supervised ceasefire by all parties, the withdrawal of soldiers and heavy weapons from cities, and the delivery of humanitarian assistance.
