TEHRAN – The director of Iran’s Interests Section in Cairo, Mojtaba Amani, has announced Tehran’s readiness to cooperate with Egypt in probing the recent deadly attack in Sinai, Egypt, the Persian service of ISNA reported on Wednesday.

Thirty-five gunmen attacked an Egyptian border post on Sunday, killing 16 border guards before commandeering an armored vehicle they later used to try to storm across the border into Israel, according to CBS News.

Amani also said that Iran condemns any action meant to undermine the stability and security of Egypt, particularly at this critical juncture, and believes that Egypt’s security is being targeted by the country’s true enemies.

He described the attack as an action against all Islamic and humanitarian values and offered Iran’s condolences to the Egyptian nation and government over the incident.
