The military attachés of several embassies in Tehran and a number of senior officers of the Iranian Army, Navy, Air Force, and Islamic Revolution Guards Corps attended the function, which was held at Ambassador Khalid Aziz Babar’s residence in Tehran.
Many foreign diplomats based in Tehran, members of the Pakistani community, and Iranian officials, scholars, and media representatives also attended the function.
In his address at the event, Ambassador Babar highlighted the significance of Defense Day of Pakistan and paid tribute to the Pakistani soldiers who gave their lives defending the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country.
“The Armed Forces of Pakistan have come a long way since their inception at the creation of Pakistan in 1947. With a humble beginning, they are now a formidable force to counter threats to our national security,” Ambassador Babar said in his speech.
He praised the “professionalism and dedication” of Pakistan’s armed forces and the role they are playing in establishing “global peace and security.”
Ambassador Babar said Pakistan is the main contributor to United Nations peacekeeping missions, and Pakistani blue helmets are deployed in trouble spots across the world, working to establish peace and security.
He noted that during the decade-long war against terrorism in northwestern Pakistan, near the border with Afghanistan, Pakistan has lost more than 3000 soldiers, and its economy has suffered a loss of over $100 billion.
The Pakistani ambassador also mentioned the important role that the Pakistani armed forces play during natural disasters, such as earthquakes and floods.
