|Iran calls on UN to help restore rights of First Nations in Canada||
TEHRAN – In a statement issued on Thursday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned the inhuman conditions that the indigenous people of Canada are experiencing.
It also called on the international community and UN human rights bodies to take the measures necessary to help restore the fundamental rights of these people, who are called First Nations in Canada.
The statement was issued on the fifth anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, which was adopted on September 13, 2007.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry also advised the Canadian government to abide by its commitments to the terms of the UN declaration, saying that Canada is a self-proclaimed advocate of human rights, which level allegations of human rights violations against other countries to divert attention from its own human rights record.
