| ‘Only if Israel accedes to NPT, Iran will attend MENWFZ conference’ |

 TEHRAN – The Iranian ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency has said that only if Israel accedes to the NPT (Non-Proliferation Treaty), Iran will take part in the Middle East nuclear weapon free zone (MENWFZ) conference which will be held in Helsinki in December.
Speaking at the preliminary meeting of the MENWFZ conference in Moscow on Friday, Ambassador Ali Asghar Soltanieh said that the idea of holding such a conference was first proposed by Iran in 1974 and supported by Egypt.
He added, “Despite the current complicated situation in the region, we are still supporting the idea of the Middle East nuclear weapon free zone.”
Soltanieh said that it cannot be expected that the Zionist regime, which has not adhered to any treaty, accede to the NPT.
