2 tons of heroin seized in eastern Iran

c_330_235_16777215_0___images_stories_edim_02_mt2(10).jpgTEHRAN - Iranian police have seized two tons of heroin at eastern border areas of the country that was bound to Europe, anti-drug police chief announced on Tuesday.
 
Over the last nine months, police succeeded to seize various types of illicit drugs, including six tons of heroin, 270 tons of opium, 37.5 tons of hashish and 2.5 tons of morphine, Brigadier General Ali Moayyedi told a press conference in Tehran.
 
He also said during the same period 65 drug kingpins were killed and 12 police officers martyred in combat against drug traffickers. 
 
Moayyedi also said 200,000 addicts and drug smugglers have been arrested in 1,050 police operations in efforts to identify and bust drug mafias. 
 
He also said that 80 percent of drug seizures in the country take place at border areas.
 
The police official also said 1.5 tons of synthetic drugs have been discovered, and 140 synthetic drug manufacturing units busted.
