.jpg) TEHRAN – The Majlis Presiding Board acknowledged the receipt of the impeachment motion against Cooperatives, Labor, and Social Welfare Minister Abdolreza Sheikholeslami on Wednesday.
Sheikholeslami must appear before the parliament in 10 days to answer MPs’ questions.
The MPs seeking to impeach Sheikholeslami have cited his failure to remove former Tehran prosecutor general Saeed Mortazavi from his post as the director of the Social Security Organization as the main reason behind their decision to oust the minister.
The Court of Administrative Justice announced on January 14 that the decree issued in mid-March 2012 in which Mortazavi had been appointed as the director of the Social Security Organization had been revoked.
Some MPs hold Mortazavi partly responsible for the Kahrizak incident, in which three inmates lost their lives.
On Monday, Sheikholeslami, during a meeting with the MPs seeking to impeach him, promised to remove Mortazavi from his post by Tuesday.
However, it was announced on Tuesday that First Vice President Mohammad Reza Rahimi had appointed Mortazavi as the caretaker of the Social Security Organization.
The impeachment motion has 18 signatures on it.
