Aliyev made the remarks during a meeting with the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Saeed Jalili, in Baku on Sunday.

Aliyev also emphasized that he had announced his support for Iran’s nuclear activities during his visit to the United States in 2006.

Iran is a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and thus has the right to nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

Jalili, for his part, said that security cooperation with Azerbaijan will serve the interests of all regional countries and ensure regional security.

The deep-rooted relations between Iran and Azerbaijan can prevent foreign intervention, Jalili said.

He added “brotherly” and “historical” relations have paved the ground for boosting security cooperation.

The Iranian official also stated that a long-lasting stability in the region can help guarantee the progress and prosperity of the two countries.
