TEHRAN – Iranian Ambassador to Iraq Hassan Danaiifar held talks with Iraqi Deputy Foreign Minister Labeed Majeed Abbawi in Baghdad in which they discussed war reparations, National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) reported on Tuesday.

According to the statement issued by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, in the meeting both sides discussed Iranian officials’ remarks on the payment of reparations to Iran in compensation for the damages inflicted on Iran during the Saddam Hussein regime’s 1980s war against the Islamic Republic.

In a recent interview with the Mehr News Agency, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said seeking war reparations from Iraq for damages inflicted on Iran during the 1980-1988 war is on the agenda of talks with Iraqi officials.

They also talked about bilateral relations and terrorist acts of the counter-revolutionary group PJAK (the Party for a Free Life in Kurdistan).

In a separate meeting with the leader of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq Ammar Hakim, Danaiifar said Iran supports the political developments in Iraq and is keen to expand mutual relations with the country.

According to another statement issued by Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, during the meeting Hakim commented on Tehran-Baghdad ties and the ways through which both countries could help enhance relations in all areas.
