Ambassador Roknabadi handed Gemayel a letter from Iranian President-elect Hassan Rohani in reply to his previous congratulatory cable on his election. Rohani underlined in his letter Iran's openness to all Lebanese shades of opinion, calling for "unity, stability, and highly needed Islamic-Christian coexistence at this specific juncture," in addition to facing up to sectarian strife.

In reply to a question about Hezbollah's role in Syria and its repercussions for Lebanon, Roknabadi reiterated Iran's stance calling for accelerating a political solution to the situation in Syria. He also brought to attention Iran's six-point special initiative that calls notably for halting violence in Syria.

On the other hand, Roknabadi affirmed that Iran is keen to help promote Lebanon's internal stability and solidarity in the face of the "Zionist entity."
