Rohani, who was elected as new Iranian president on June 14, will take office in early August.

Salehi made the remarks during a meeting with the new German ambassador to Tehran, Michael Freiherr von Ungern-Sternberg, on Monday.

The Iranian official also pointed to good political relations between Tehran and Berlin and said that there was high potential for the expansion of economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries.

The new German ambassador, for his part, highlighted the important and effective role of the Islamic Republic in the stability and security of the region and the world and expressed hope that the relations between the two countries would improve during the term of the new Iranian president.

He also submitted a copy of his credentials to Salehi.
