 TEHRAN - Mohammad Reza Aref, the a pro-reform presidential contender who withdrew candidacy a few days before the June 14 election, says the new president, Hassan Rohani, must be given a free hand to choose his cabinet ministers.
Aref, who was talking in a gathering of his loyalists in Mashhad on Tuesday night, also said those should enter the cabinet who can work in a “coordinated way”.
He added that in the June 14 presidential election “no person or faction or political group has a feeling of failure and all consider themselves as winners of the election fight.”
Aref who acted as vice president in the Khatami administration said that the new government should pay due attention to “public demands”.
Aref to publish book about election
He also said he will publish a book which will contain the e-mails, messages, and letters sent to him during the presidential campaign.
“I will publish this book so that people would have a better judgment about me,” he noted.
Pointing to the protests that followed 2009 presidential election, he said, “We had some talks with our principlist friends that they should (also) admit” some of their mistakes in creating that situation “but they did not acknowledge it.”
In the 2009 election the defeated candidates Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, who were mainly supported by reformist groups, claimed election fraud, an allegation that led to street protests that lasted for some months.
