TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi held a telephone conversation with his Spanish counterpart Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo on Thursday, offering his condolences over a railway incident the previous day, in which at least 80 people were killed.
According to Reuters, an eight-carriage train came off the tracks, hit a wall, and caught fire just outside the pilgrimage destination Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain. It was one of Europe’s worst rail disasters.
