 TEHRAN - Iranian President-elect Hassan Rohani said on Friday that “in our region, under the shadow of the occupation of the Palestinian territories and beloved al-Qods (Jerusalem), a wound has formed on the body of the Islamic world.”
Rohani made the remarks on the sidelines of a demonstration held in Tehran to commemorate International Qods Day, which occurs on the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan.
However, Rohani’s remarks were distorted by certain local media outlets and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and foreign media outlets used the distortion as a pretext to attack Rohani.
On settlement activities in the occupied territories, Rohani said that while the Islamic world is facing problems, “the Zionists think that they have found a proper opportunity… to depict a peaceful image of themselves, but in fact continue their occupation of the Palestinian territories.”
