He made the remarks during a meeting with the head of the presidential office, Mohammad Nahavandian, in Tehran on Tuesday. Pistelli visited Iran to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Rohani, which was held on August 4.

The Italian diplomat also submitted a written message of Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta to Nahavandian to be handed to Rohani.

Referring to the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Iran and Italy on Afghanistan, he stated that his country was willing to cooperate with Tehran to help reconstruct the war-torn country, particularly after the withdrawal of foreign forces.

Nahavandian, for his part, said that Tehran and Rome had a history of friendly relations and enjoyed many grounds to strengthen their cooperation.

He added that the Islamic Republic was ready to open new chapters in its relationships with all countries and make efforts to resolve issues based on mutual respect and interests through a win-win approach.

He also hailed the activities of Iran-Italy joint chamber of commerce and called on Rome and Europe to take fresh initiatives in order to resolve political issues through economic cooperation.

Iran, Europe can build a bright future

The Italian diplomat also held a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for European and American Affairs Ali Asghar Khaji on the same day and said that Iran and Europe could have a bright future in their relations.

Also Khaji said that the Iranian president offered new opportunities to the world, especially Europe, during his speeches in his inauguration ceremony, and emphasized that increasing the bilateral ties could help promote global peace and stability.
