Indonesia is keen to have friendly relations with Iran, however, the level of economic ties between the two countries has not met our expectations and should be boosted, Dian Wirengjurit said, according to a translation of his remarks during an interview with the Mehr News Agency published on Wednesday.

He also commented on Indonesia’s Independence Day, which is marked on August 17, and said that Indonesia gained its independence in 1945 after long years of fight against colonialism.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he said that Indonesia is cooperating with the international community to help Palestine obtain its freedom and independence as well. He added that Jakarta has facilitated the transfer of nearly 1,000 Palestinians to Indonesia to study and acquire skills in various areas.

The Indonesian ambassador also spoke about Iran’s June 14 presidential election, in which Hassan Rohani was elected in an outright victory, and said that the election was one of the most democratic elections held in the world.
