|All ministers chosen based on merit: Rohani||
TEHRAN – Iranian President Hassan Rohani has said that in picking his cabinet ministers he didn’t take into consideration the political affiliations of the individuals, rather he considered their expertise, experience, and honesty.
He made the remarks during the inauguration ceremony of new Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani-Fazli in Tehran on Monday.
Rohani reiterated that he believed that “extremism” could harm the country, emphasizing that what accounted for the appointment of his ministers and officials was their moderate approach, not their political backgrounds.
He further elaborated on his electoral campaign slogan which read “prudence and hope”, saying that his government was seeking to promote political moderation, economic prudence, and social hope.
He added that he had rejected people with military and security records as nominees for the Interior Ministry and decided to give the post to someone with cultural and social backgrounds.
“We are seeking economic, social, and cultural development which can lead to political and security development as well,” Rohani said.
He also thanked former interior minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar, who was attending the ceremony, for his efforts at the defense and the interior ministries.
Mohammad Najjar served as interior minister and defense minister during the 9th and 10th administrations respectively under Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Rahmani-Fazli delivered a speech during the ceremony and expressed hope to help promote security and calm as well as and political and economic development in the country.
He also vowed to carry out his responsibilities effectively with the help of the Almighty God, the Leader’s guidelines, and support from the government, the parliament, and the people.
