Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich expressed hope that Iran and the world powers would resume nuclear talks soon.

“We expect Iran and the sextet to express readiness to continue the dialogue shortly,” Lukashevich said.

“We laud any Iran’s actions, which will help strengthen cooperation to search for mutually advantageous solutions to the problem,” the diplomat said.

Iran has held several rounds of talks with the 5+1 group (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany) over its nuclear program.

The talks have so far failed to make a breakthrough.

Iran’s intention to take a “transparent and flexible approach” at the talks will be vital, said Lukashevich.

Also, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif held a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on Thursday and the two sides “emphasized the necessity of fastest resumption of talks in order to find efficient ways to resolve the existing issues,” Russian Foreign Ministry said in an online statement.
