Undoubtedly, the evil Zionists are prompting takfiri groups and “irresponsible” extremists to sow discord among the Lebanese people and undermine national unity in the country, Foreign Ministry spokesman Seyyed Abbas Araqchi said.

Under the inspiring guidance of their political and religious leaders, the vigilant nation of Lebanon once again will surely disappoint their opportunist enemies, Araqchi added.

The Islamic Republic of Iran calls on concerned international organizations to condemn the terrorist incidents in Tripoli and make every effort to disclose the hidden hands behind the sinister events, Araqchi noted.

According to Reuters, bombs hit two mosques in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli on Friday, killing at least 42 people and wounding hundreds.

The apparently coordinated blasts - the biggest and deadliest in Tripoli since the end of Lebanon's own civil war - struck as locals were finishing Friday prayers.

The first explosion hit the Taqwa mosque killing at least 14 people.

Further deaths were reported from a second blast a few minutes later outside the al-Salam mosque, which the Interior Ministry said was hit by a car laden with 100 kg (220 pounds) of explosives.
