Rahmani-Fazli, the interior minister, won a vote of confidence from the parliament on August 15 after receiving 256 votes in favor, 19 votes against and nine abstentions.
Iran lies on a major trafficking route between Afghanistan and Europe, as well as Persian Gulf states.
Iran has spent more than 700 million dollars to seal the borders and prevent the transit of narcotics destined for European, Arab and Central Asian countries.
