|Iran warns against any U.S. military intervention in Syria||
TEHRAN – The Iranian Foreign Ministry on Saturday reacted to recent hawkish remarks on Syria by U.S. Secretary Of Defense Chuck Hagel, warning against any move or statement which may trigger more unrest in the Middle East.
“The problem in Syria can only be resolved through dialogue and finding a peaceful solution. And there is currently no international permission on initiating a military offensive against Syria,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Araqchi Araqchi said in an interview with Iranian Student News Agency (ISNA).
Commenting on Hagel’s recent comments to reporters in Malaysia in which he said that the United States is weighing military options in Syria, Araqchi said, “Iran has repeatedly declared that the Syrian crisis has no military solution and such provocative remarks only complicates and intensifies the situation in the region.”
“We hope there would be enough wisdom in the White House to not engage in such a risky battlefield… We have had enough crises and problems in the Middle East and it is hoped that some governments not to intensify the current situation through their imprudent policies,” he noted.
Hagel suggested on Friday the United States was positioning naval forces and assets in anticipation of any decision by President Barack Obama to order military action against Syria.
