Zarif made the remarks in reference to the escalation of sectarian violence in the region, particularly in Lebanon.
He underscored the need to maintain vigilance in the face of the plots meant to cause division among Muslims and said that Iran is ready to make efforts to help curb extremism in the region.
The foreign minister also called for increased cooperation between the two countries to help alleviate regional crises.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Zarif condemned the recent twin bomb explosions in Lebanon that left hundreds dead and injured.
According to Reuters, bombs hit two mosques in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli on Friday, killing at least 42 people and wounding hundreds.
The apparently coordinated blasts - the biggest and deadliest in Tripoli since the end of Lebanon’s own civil war - struck as locals were finishing Friday prayers.
