Zarif made the remarks during a telephone conversation with German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle on Tuesday, in which the two officials discussed the latest developments in the crisis-hit Arab country.
The Iranian official called on the countries, which intend to strike Syria on the allegation that it has used chemical weapons against armed rebels, not to take a hasty decision.
He also condemned the use of chemical weapons in Syria and called for the completion of the process of investigation into the case by the UN inspectors.
In addition, he said that the issue should be addressed through peaceful means in order to prevent the tension from spreading further in the region.
In another telephone conversation on Tuesday, Iranian deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, Russia’s special Middle East envoy, exchanged views about the situation in Syria.
They condemned the use of chemical weapons by terrorist groups and warned about the negative impact of any military action against Syria on the region.
