Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari made the remarks during an interview with the Tasnim News Agency published on Friday.

If the U.S. attacks Syria, it would face its heaviest defeat in history which would be even worse than its defeats in Afghanistan and Iraq, the general said.

The U.S. attacked Iraq in 2003 under the pretext of finding chemical weapons, however, after years of military occupation and killing of thousands of innocent people, Washington admitted that it made a mistake by invading the country, he stated.

The U.S. is repeating the same scenario by claiming that the Syrian government has used chemical weapons against its own people, the top general said.

“Apparently, the U.S. government has threatened to launch a military attack (on Syria under a pressure) by the Zionist lobbies,” General Jafari said, adding that the attack would mean an “imminent demolition” of Israel.

He also cautioned certain regional countries who support a military attack against Syria, saying the flames of such an act would not be restricted to the Syrian borders and it would “burn” those who support it.
