|Rafsanjani calls for support for Syria, Lebanon||
TEHRAN – Expediency Council Chairman Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani has called for a continued support for Syria and Lebanon, saying the two Arab countries are in the forefront of the resistance movement against Israel.
He made the remarks during the latest session of the council on Saturday, the Fars News Agency has learnt.
He added that every effort should be made through diplomatic channels to prevent a war in the region, warning that the whole region would be burnt in flames if the U.S. and its allies start a war on Syria.
“If Syria breaks down, Israel would be given a free hand,” Rafsanjani warned.
U.S. President Barak Obama is making efforts to convince Congress to back his plan to attack Syria.
Washington blames Syrian government forces for using chemical weapons near Damascus on August 21 against foreign-backed militants.
The Syrian government has categorically rejected the allegations saying the insurgents staged it to incriminate the government.
