Major General Qasem Suleimani made the remarks during a speech to the Assembly of Experts in Tehran on Tuesday, the Fars News Agency quoted an assembly member as saying.

According to the report, General Suleimani said that the U.S. pretends that it is worried about the Iranian nuclear issue, seeking to institutionalize democracy in Egypt, and promote human rights in Syria, but Washington’s main objective is to break the resistance front.

The top general insisted that the Islamic Republic will support Syria to the end.

He added that the U.S. has resorted to various ploys to topple Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, from exerting political pressure on Damascus to finding excuses of alleged use of chemical weapons by the Damascus government against it own people.

He also noted that 95 percent of insurgents in Syria are foreigners and the remaining five percent are army defectors and a number of Salafis.
