TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has said that Iran condemns the killing of Jews by Nazis during the Second World War as it denounces similar actions being committed against Palestinians by the Zionist regime of Israel.
Zarif made the remarks during an interview with the Tasnim News Agency on Thursday.
His comments came after he sent a “happy Rosh Hashana” message to Jews on his Twitter page, wishing Jewish people a happy New Year, and said that Iran “never denied Holocaust”.
“Our Jewish countrymen are a recognized minority in Iran and have an active representative in the Parliament,” Zarif said, adding, “We never were against Jews. We oppose Zionists who are a small group.”
“We do not allow the Zionists to represent Iran as an anti-Semitic country in their propaganda so they can cover up their crimes against Palestinian and Lebanese people,” the senior Iranian diplomat said.
The Zionists used the Holocaust as a pretext to attract sympathy around the world in efforts to plunder the rights of the Palestinian people, he added.
