Iranian Majlis speaker, Turkmen president call for stronger ties

c_330_235_16777215_0___images_stories_edim_02_at2(31).jpgTEHRAN – Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani has said Iran is ready to expand ties with Turkmenistan in various areas.
 
He made the remarks during a meeting with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov in Ashgabat on Friday.
 
Larijani noted that the Islamic Republic is prepared to do infrastructure projects in Turkmenistan such as constructing roads and developing oil and gas industry in the country.
 
He also praised Turkmenistan for significant progresses it has made over the recent years, emphasizing that Iran is ready to contribute to this progress. 
 
The Majlis speaker added that Tehran and Ashgabat share a close view on promoting peace and stability in the region, and hailed Berdymukhamedov for his peace-loving approach.  
 
The Turkmen president, for his part, underlined that efforts should be made to increase bilateral relations, adding that Ashgabat is ready to expand its ties with Tehran.
 
During the meeting, the two senior officials also discussed ways to fight terrorism and prevent drug trafficking.
 
Larijani, who was heading a high-ranking delegation, arrived in Turkmenistan on Thursday for an official three-day visit aimed at finding ways to bilateral ties between Tehran and Ashgabat.
