| War on Syria is war against entire region: Zarif |

.jpg) TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has said that any war against Syria would be a war against the entire region.
He made the remarks at a press conference with his Iraqi counterpart Hoshyar Zebari during a one-day trip to Baghdad on Sunday.
It was Zarif’s first foreign trip after his appointment as Iran’s foreign minister.
He added that Iran is making every effort to prevent a war in the region, cautioning against beating the drums of war and warned that the flames of any possible military intervention would engulf every country in the region.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Zarif said that Tehran is concerned about warmongering actions in the region and advised everyone to observe international law and refrain from using force in order to put an end to the civil war and “fratricide” in Syria.
Zarif also condemned the use of chemical weapons by anyone at any place and said that Iran and Iraq are two main victims of chemical weapons and have suffered from the indifference of the international community in this regard.
"I do not know why those who say all options are on the table do not understand the fact that civilized countries 65 years ago ... rejected in the charter of the United Nations (the) resort to force as an illegal practice," Zarif said.
He added anyone who starts the war cannot wrap it up.
The senior diplomat also said U.S. President Barak Obama has been caught in a trap set by others against his personal wishes, hoping that Obama would get out of this trap.
Zebari, for his part, called for a peaceful settlement of the Syrian crisis.
Tehran-Baghdad cooperation would help promote regional peace
Prior to the press conference, Zarif held a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki in which they discussed the latest developments in the region as well as issues of bilateral relations.
During the meeting, he underlined that cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad would help promote peace and stability in the region.
The senior Iranian diplomat also hailed the Iraqi administration for its prudent stance toward major regional issues.
Maliki, for his part, called for the expansion of ties in various areas and asked Zarif to convey his warm greetings to Iran’s President Hassan Rohani.
He also said that any military intervention against Syria would put the whole region at risk, saying that efforts should be made to resolve the Syrian crisis through political ways.
